Welcome to our School Website
Welcome to Collon National School. We are located on School Lane in the picturesque village of Collon, Co. Louth. Collon is located in the south west corner of County Louth, on the N2 national primary road. The village has been home to the Cistercian order for many years in Melifont Abbey, up until very recently. The village is also the ancestral home to the Foster family, who resided at Collon House. Mattock Rangers are our local GAA club who provide wonderful facilities and opportunities for all young people in the area.
Over recent years there have been many new housing developments built around the village and we, as a school have welcomed many new families to our school and community.
Collon National school is a Catholic School under the Patronage of Arch Bishop Eamon Martin. We do, however welcome children from all faiths. Currently we have 190 pupils in our school. We have 7 Mainstream Class teachers and 3 Special Education Teachers. We have 2 SNAs, 1 school secretary and 1 caretaker. Our school Principal is Anne Marie Martin and Edel Lennon is our Deputy Principal.
We are proud of our school, its Catholic ethos, its kind, caring and welcoming atmosphere and its proud sporting traditions. Pupils are given a wide range of opportunities to participate in various sporting activities eg swimming, tennis, yoga, basketball, soccer, hurling, camogie and of course GAA football for both boys and girls.
Digitally our school is very well equipped with Interactive White Boards in all classrooms, tablets for use in younger classes, during station teaching and 30 Chrome books for use in the Senior classes of 5th and 6th
.
Our school has a very active Parent’s Association, led at present, by Michelle Weldon.
Our Parent’s Association actively fundraises throughout the school year and helps to provide greater opportunities and activities for all of our pupils. They also organise our Christmas Cards, School Book Fair, First Holy Communion Tea, Christmas & Easter & Sports Day treats, Christmas Get together for Parents of our Junior Infants and Christmas & Easter raffles.
Our Board of Management is the body of persons appointed by the Patron to manage the school on behalf of the Patron. Seamus Roe is our current Chairperson of the Board and its term will run until November 2027.
We hope you enjoy our new school website and that you get a little peak into the wonderful work that goes on in our school.
